Waka carvings
There is a very cool waka in Whakatane, a reproduction of the original Mataatua waka, with some great carvings on it. On the prow is a serious looking dude with a tattooed face and a ponytail, and in the back of the boat (my favorite) is a round, maybe pregnant, looking lady. This particular boat also had a lot of red spirals in in it, and carvings of men and women, where the men held oars and the women did not.
