Muriwai's Cave

Muriwai was an aunt to Wairaka and lived in this cave here in the latter part of her life. It used to be protected by a tapu (which meant that we were not invited), but that has since been lifted and now we get to walk in and see what it was like. She was apparently a very famous priestess, and her advice was much sought after. There are stories that it could once hold 32 people, which makes me wonder if the cave is smaller now than it used to be, because it looks like a small, damp home for such an important person, but it is really cool to walk in and imagine her here. I'm sure it was little bit more homey back then.
